Aug 4th. CRIPPLE CREEK DRIVE

Aug 4th. CRIPPLE CREEK DRIVE

Our trip to Cripple Creek on August 4th was well attended with a total of 22 people and 12 cars making the run. We had some difficulties on the way with getting separated in traffic, car breakdown and a giant art show in Woodland Park where we we to meet for a pit stop-but no place to park!  Just outside of Divide Wally Gambles'  TR3a was running rough, so he did a roadside tuneup with a change of spark plugs and adjustment of the carburetors. We had a nice lunch at Maggies' in Cripple Creek ( we filled four tables), but it took a long time to get served.

After lunch some of our group took off for the tables and slots while some of us, after looking at the nasty, threatening skies decided to return early. On the return trip Wally had more problems with his car. It seemed to be running on only two cylinders. We stopped just out of Buffalo Creek while Wally did a roadside valve adjustment. He pulled the valve cover and found that one of the four studs that hold the rocker arm assemblies in position had fractured, leaving the broken parts rattling around in the oil galley of the head! Wally very ingeniously re-torqued the remaining three studs, adjusted the valve lash, put the valve cover back on and we were on our way!

2013 Slalom

There were more than 20 cars making up to 5 runs apiece on the three lap Slalom course laid out by the Jaguar Club at the Front Range Airport.  Ralph M. and Mark B. each drove their TR6's, Frank O. ran his TR-8 and Gordon K. ran in his Chevy VOLT which recorded the first time ever for a electric car in this event.  In addition, there were Audi's, Porsche's, Toyota's, a Ford Escort rental car, a late model Boss 302 Mustang and several Jaguars both new and old.  The course is a low-gear course of laps of a "doggie bone", a "figure eight" and finishing with a "oval".  Times ranges from low 40 seconds up to 60.  Knocking over a cone was a 2 second penalty.

At noon we had a cooperative lunch and then finished up our laps.  A good time was had by all.

2013 Moonlight Drive

Moonlight Drive, July 20, 2013

For the 18th year the group gathered at the home of the Kenney’s in Foxfield for the annual “Moonlight Drive” although it’s actually a “dinner” not a “drive”.  There were five Triumphs in the driveway and other cars of note included two Jag’s, a Mustang and two electric VOLT’s.

After lots of conversation and other socializing we enjoyed a pot-luck dinner and although it didn’t rain the wind blew hard enough to make it interesting.

As it began getting dark many  of the clouds went away so we set up the telescope and looked at the craters on the nearly full moon.

Included in the group were the Augustine’s in their white TR-3; it was their first outing with the TR3 since they lost their home in the recent Black Forest fire.  Also, John Allen and Chuck Daldry were welcomed as new members to the club.

HIGHWAY PICKUP 2013

Peak-to-Peak Highway, July 14, 2013

This annual event is organized by Rod Tomkins.

The members pick-up the trash along a two mile stretch of the highway near Rollinsville.

Afterward the group went to the cabin of David Durstine near Lyons for a picnic lunch.

A cool day with the temperature in the 60's but it didn't rain and everyone had a good time.

GOLDEN SUPERCRUISE 2013

Golden, July 6th, 2013

The Becwars hosted and SuperCruise provided the cars

It was Saturday night and time for the SuperCruise in Golden.  Bob and Judy Becwar hosted the club, fed and watered the group, and then led them for a drive in the parade.

The weather was near perfect and about two dozen member participated.  A very successful event.
