The Annual Christmas Party, Dec. 11, 2010

Held at the Sundance Hills in Greenwood Village

Solvio's idea for a new (lower cost) place for this yearly event

Some of the group

There was a great turnout with about 50 people in attendance.

Although it was a cold evening Silvio drove his TR-3; brrrr

There was plenty of good food (much of it was very very fresh) and guests didn't go away hungry

The gift exchange followed the usual rules of the taking of a gift three times before it belongs.

All-in-all a very successful party and the facility cost was much lower than we had been paying.

The Donation to 9 Cares, Colorado Shares November 13th, 2010

Followed by a drive through the parks of central Denver

Which was followed by Lunch at Pints Pub - Correct photos later

Donation of the food and money

There were 18 people at Racines where we had a great breakfast.

At left; there were 10 Triumphs driving to the donation site. We had a on-TV interview and Rod told them about the High's Memorial Program.

The interview may not have made it to the TV screen but it was a fun place to be.

Rod Tomkins organized this year-long program of collections in memory of Tom and Dorthy High and he did a great job for the club.

After breakfast and the donation we went for about a 90 minute drive past and through several of Denver Park's including Washington, Clermont Park and City Park

September 19th, The British Car Conclave

More than 100 Triumphs

102 Triumphs and only 114 MG's

The last time for the Kenneys 1800

This event is one of the highlights of the year with about 500 English cars and motorcycles on the grass.

The club tent was used for regalia sales, raffle tickets and prizes, member sign-up and as to serve the club sandwitch to members and guests.

The Kenney's 1800 was displayed by them for the last time as it was sold to a Denver resident during the show. But we will probably see it in the future.

The photo on the right shows the Bagpipe band marching past the club tent. The club presented its own awards and the conclave committee awarded ribbons based on voting by all of the registrants.

August 15th, Scottish Highlands Games

Triumphs lined up on the grass

Brooks Turner again organized this car show and reported about 35 cars on the grass in the park in Highlands Ranch. The number of cars was down from previous years but there were several other events going on that day in the metro area. Also, this year they charged $5 per car to enter the show cars.

Hopefully next year there wouldn't be so many competing events and the club can make a better showing.

August 8th, The Cerebral Palsy Exotic Car Show

Two RMTC members showed their cars

The Kenneys TD 1800 on display

This annual event raises nearly $100,000 each year for the local Cerebral Palsy program. They operate a facility at Lowry and provide support for families in Colorado.

The money is raised by the entry fee for exhibitors and by the admission fee. The Porsche club is one of the primary sponsors of the event but all marques are represented.

The Kenney's 1800 attracted a lot of people as usual and Gordon enjoyed the day talking to interested visitors.

The other club car was Duncan Burdick's newly restored 1955 Healey; it was being showed by the restoration company from Colorado Springs. Hopefully we will get to see this car again this summer.

July 17, the highway pickup event

Organized by Rod Tomkins

Cars at Rollinsville

The Few, The Proud

Saturday, July17, and where were you? Well, The few, The Proud, The RMTC Highway Cleanup Crew were on the job. Full credit should go to Andy and Betty DeVisscher, Mark and Kathy Norby, Rick and Lynne Lawson, Andrew and Kitty Janiesch, and the author. The sun was out and the temperatures were up as we headed for the hills, but before we could even get there disaster struck on Colorado 93 in Golden in the form of a rear ending of Andy and Betty's beautiful TR 6. Neither Andy or Betty were hurt despite having to push back the top and climb out of the car because the doors were jammed. Unfortunately the same can't be said of the 6. Crumple zone engineering may have not been a design feature back in the 70s, but from the way the rear end behind the cockpit was crumpled and creased it must have absorbed the the major part of the impact. Anyway with Andy showing great presence of mind by taking pictures and by producing his documentation for the officers, not always an easy task after such an ordeal, and with Terry Hughes enroute to ferry the DeVisshers home, the depleted band continued on to our designated stretch of highway above Rollinsville. With cooler temperatures, and some occasional cloud cover we accomplished our task with half a mile of highway per vehicle to cover instead of the usual one or two tenths.

Upon completion we enjoyed a spirited drive down, then up, Coal Creek Canyon to The Wonderview Cafe for lunch. At lunch, highway "treasures" were distributed (a new system), and And and Betty were voted by acclamation as the Most Valuable Trash Collectors, acknowledging the great sacrifice they had made in attempting to perform their civic duty. As we returned to our respective homes the with the temperature over 100, it was a challenge for our "external air conditioning systems" to keep us cool. Mine did not. But challenge met, and job done. Submitted by Rod Tomkins

July 17th, The DeVisschers Accident

On the way to the Highway Pickup

The DeVisschers car immediately after the accident

Andy and Betty DeVisscher were involved in an accident while driving their 1971 TR-6 to the Highway Pickup starting point on Saturday, July 17th. They had come to a halt on the highway near Golden behind another car at a traffic light when their car was struck from the year by a SUV being driven by a young woman. The impact crumpled the rear of the TR-6, jammed the doors, threw glass over both of them and drove them into the car ahead. The fuel tank had ruptured with gasoline streaming from the car and there was difficulty in getting them out as both doors were jammed shut and the top was up.

Luckily the wreck didnt catch fire or it could have been a much more serious accident. They both are OK but each have several bruises and sore spots.

This view shows much of the damage done

July 10th, The Car Show in Winter Park

Some of the cars at the Rendezvous

A great group of car lovers attended the second annual Rendezvous Car Show in Winter Park on July 10, 2010. The members of the Rocky Mountain Triumph Club brought out their finest Triumphs from a TR3, several TR6s, a TR7 and a TR8. We also had an excellent early model MGB and an XKE coupe.

However, the surprise of the day was the appearance of a 1930 American LaFrance fire truck presented by the East Grand County Fire Protection District, which won the prize for Best of Show. All of those in attendance were treated to a nice lunch under the big tent and the opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle presented by Rendezvous in Winter Park. We all look forward to next years event.

June 19th, The Pre-Fathers Day Cookout

Hosted again by Scott and Laura Augustine

Scott shows an MG-C to
   club members

At left Scott talks about one of his two MG-C's that he is planning on restoring some day.

There is a Triumph, two MG C's, a Corvette, some "muscle cars" and some of his fathers Buicks at Scotts place. Those that don't fit into the large garage are parked thoughout the several acres of their lot.

After looking at the cars it was time for the cook-out. Ralph manned one of the grills.

We had invited the MG club to join us again this year and they were a welcome addition to the group

May 16th, Spring Car Show in Morrison

The club returned to this locale again for the Spring Car show and it worked well as usual. Something about the busy street/sidewalk traffic and the river and trees along the back makes for a great car show location.

Triumphs on earth

BEST OF SHOW

The beautiful TR-250 shown by Paul Fallico received a very well earned recognition as "Best of Show" in this annual show. His TR-250 was the only car in the TR-4/TR-250 so a class win was easy but there was stiff competition for the Best of Show. Not only a great car but also a nice board display about the TR 250's.

The TR-3 Group

This group contained four TR-3's and was parked alongside the highway running through town. These unusual fish-eye photos were made by Dennis Line of "Colorado360". He specializes in taking and producing these unusual panoramic photos. See is work at www.colorado.360.net. Thanks Dennis for photographing our event and sharing the photos.

May 8th, The St Francis, KS show

Triumphs lined up along the town square

The club has been going to this annual car show for several years. This year there were 8 Triumphs on display. Bob and JoAnn Klie always add to the event by hosting a cook-out on Saturday evening, having several members sleep in their house and by doing "farm things" on Sunday morning.

This year Ken Kalin has great luck at the car show by winning the pot, worth over $250, in the Chicken s_ _ t bingo.

May 1st, Tune-Up at the Kenneys

In spite of a bad weather forecast, the weather turned out nice and about 18 people showed up for this annual event. There were at least eight Triumphs and most of the owners did some work on their cars. Bob Klie was on hand as our Triumph expert and helped several with their cars. Some came for the event even though they weren't driving Triumphs. About noon several drove to the Brewery Bar IV for lunch.

Lots of help was available
for those working on their car Vince Lane's work included a
compression check and carb adjustment Bob Klie and Rick Peterson discuss his
TR-4 Brooks Turner installed an electronic ignition system

Here Brooks starts to work on the ignition of his TR3

Several other members were watching, learning something and drinking coffee.

Vince Lane had driven his TR-6 down from Evergreen and did a compression check, (both dry and wet), checked ignition timing , carb. synchronization and mixture adjustment. He was looking for more power at cruising speeds.

Bob Klie and Rick Peterson discuss the problem with his TR-4. Bob certainly adds a lot to this event with his extensive of Triumph tuning and repair.

Brooks Turner installed a electronic ignition unit in his TR-3. It was supposed to be a 20 minute project but some of the parts didn't quite fit his distributor. Bob used a cut-off wheel to eliminate the offending part.

But it ran well when finished.

April 10th, The Shelby American Collection

and the

Drive and Lunch in Ward

arranged by Dave Fain

Bob and Mark chat
                near the Daytona Coupe

At left Bob and Mark talk about the various displays at the museum. The Daytona coupe sits to the left.

About 30 club members visited the exhibit.

At right on the drive to the Millsite Inn near Ward. It was up through a magnificent canyon. Just ahead is Rod and passenger James in Rods TR-6. About 24 people made the drive and enjoyed lunch at the picturesque restaurant (and it wasn't fast food!).

March 27th, The Annual Chili Cookoff

Silvio, our host, chats with others

This is the second year Silvio and his family have hosted this event. There were 25 members present sampling from about 10 different chilis. Others had brought items such as cornbread, sopapillas and Judi had provided cupcakes, drinks of various sorts and other items.

This year, after the votes for the favorite chili had been counted, it was determined that we had co-winners, the Altmans and the Tomkins. Both recipes will be published in the newsletter. Everyone had a good time and nobody dropped a bowl of chili on the carpet.!

March 20th, A visit to the Tebo collection in Longmont

Visit followed by lunch

Our club visits this great collection of cars every year or so and this year we had 14 members show up on a rather cold and snowy day.

This year we went drove up together, visited the 300+ cars on display, then went to a brewpub for lunch.

March 6th, first drive of 2010, the FROSTBITE REGATTA DRIVE

Andy and Ken

This was the first year for this event; it was was organized by Ralph. There were 19 people in the 14 cars and the late winter weather was delightful with 50 degree temperatures. We drove through Golden, Boulder, Lyons and ended up in Longmont. Lunch was at the Pumphouse Brewery.

The raffle prize was a paid lunch; Ken Kalin celebrates his win.

Feb. 20th, the Rallye Coach Restoration Shop

Tony Martins, owner of the shop, talks to the group

This was the first time our club had visited this shop which is located just west of SantaFe Blvd. on Union St. south of Belleview. The MG and Healy club were also there for the morning visit.

We looked at the various cars undergoing restoration and listened as Tony told of the many details that make up a successful project. There were two Porsche 356's, a Jaguar XKE, a beautiful AH nearly done, an Alpha and some other vehicles on the floor.

Afterward several of us went to the OLD MILL in Littleton for lunch.

Feb. 27th, the Tucson, AZ Roundup, Feb, 2010

David Farrell and Phil Sough

This was the third year for this event that just gets better each year.

The car show on Saturday had about 75 English cars on display. RMTC members Farrells, Firewick, Stoughs and Kenneys all attended the car show (but none of us had a Triumph to show). Gordon and Shirley Kenney entered the event with a rented Ford Mustang convertible and did the Friday 200 mile drive in it.

A very fun event but its a long 950 mile drive from Denver (but only 90 minutes by air).
