Glenwood Rally

The MG Car Club – Rocky Mountain Centre invites you to help us celebrate our 65th Annual Rallye Glenwood Springs, the oldest continually-held time-speed-distance rallye in the United States, on, June 9-11, 2017.

The first Rallye Glenwood Springs began with a hardy group of MGCC-RMC sports car owners who discovered the joys of top-down motoring in Colorado when MGs still had running boards and the new TR2 and powerful XK-120 were just beginning to be sold by Colorado car dealers. Imagine what Colorado mountain roads were like during that 1953 Rallye—gravel (some pavement!), no guardrails, single-lane bridges, hairpin curves, sheer cliffs, and thin air.

Mead Motorheads Memorial Day Car Show

As a member of the Mead Motorheads, I told our local organizing committee that Ithought it would be wonderful to invite some foreign vehicles to grace our show up here on Monday May 29th (Memorial Day). Janet says that you do have some members who live in the northern suburbs.

So, I was wondering if you think there might be some folk in the Triumph Club, who would like to bring their cars up to show alongside of other marques that run from 1930s to 1975? Most years there are American cars that folk in Northern Colorado bring to this show.  A couple of years ago we had a 1962 Ferrari GTO, that had just run in the Colorado Grand, appear here.

We have a maximum of 115 car spaces available in the beautiful downtown Mead park. I've asked the lead promoter to send you an official invite, if you know of some folk in the Triumph club who might consider such.

All the best,
Torrey Brinkley

Drive your Triumph Day

My name is Rye Livingston and I'm with the Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club in Northern California. A few years ago I encouraged the members or our club to drive their Triumph on February 10th, to celebrate Sir John Black's Birthday, the man who organized Standard's purchase of Triumph after the war, and went on to make the cars we enjoy driving today.

The concept is to go for a drive on a country road, to lunch, to the market, to work, where ever. Go for a drive alone, with a spouse, buddy, child, grandchild or their dog, maybe a few other Triumphs; then take a photo. The photo is mainly of the car, ideally in front a cool spot, landmark, in front of a market or hardware store. Then send me the photo with basic info: name and place photo was taken. The photos were published in our newsletter.

The first year half a dozen members participated. The second year a few more members participated. Last year I sent out the request to a Yahoo group across the United States, and about 30 Triumph owners sent me photos of their cars while out on a drive. Those in the northeast, who were snow bound with their cars tucked away under covers in their garage for the winter, were encouraged to go out and pose with their cars in the garage. I coordinated all the photos and sent them to The Vintage Triumph, and Mike Cook published multiple pages of photos taken on February 10th of Triumphs around the US, in the VTR magazine.

This year I want to make it a bigger Drive Your Triumph Day, so I'm emailing Triumph Clubs worldwide, encouraging you to ask your members to drive their Triumph on February 10th, take a photo, and send it to me. I will organize them and work with Mike Cook to get them published in The Vintage Triumph magazine along with our club newsletter. I've set up a special email address for your members to send me their photos: driveyourtriumphday@gmail.com.

Please contact me with any questions you may have, and thank you in advance for getting the message out to your members to Drive Their Triumph on February 10th.

Regards,
Rye Livingston
