RMTC's Burger Hunt

Want to taste and score the best Colorado burgers while driving your Triumph? I introduce to you the RMTC’s Ultimate Colorado Burger Hunt 2018. During this driving season, you can be a judge in our burger contest. These are not fast-food burgers! Working with The Denver Burger Club, I will be sending out invites for future drives to award-winning burger joints to see if the RMTC’s Burger Judges agree. This is all about getting together with fellow burger lovers to enjoy good conversation over good food, and driving cool cars. Want to be a part of this? Just email Andrej at TRdad@mail.com. Once a Burger Joint is located, I will send out an invite to join in the drive. We will meet at a location and then drive to the Burger Joint then eat. I will hand out scorecards for each judge to fill out and I will gather them at the end of the drive. At the driving seasons' end, I will tally all scores and do a write up with the results in our newsletter announcing our winner. Once we have our winner, we will present the best burger joint with a plaque from RMTC. I plan on hitting one Burger Joint per month. You know a Burger Joint, great, just let me know and I will add it to our list. If you are a vegetarian, don’t email me!

Clive Cussler Museum coordinated by Andrew Janiesch

Clive Cussler Museum  Saturday, July 21               10:00 a.m.  to Noon

Kitty and I had the opportunity to attend a Hagerty event which featured Adventure Novelist, Clive Cussler’s Family. This event highlighted Clive’s car collection which is considered one of the top ten car collections in the world. Family members of Clive Cussler and his museum curator of 35 years attended this event. Andrew is pictured with Clive’s son Dirk who is co-author and the namesake for the main character Dirk Pitt. The Triumph Club is fortunate enough to have the chance to visit the Clive Cussler Museum on Saturday, July 21st. Some of the cars in this collection include Packard’s, Duesenberg’s, Stutz, Isotta-Fraschini Tipo and the car Andrew is standing in front of, a 1956 Mercury Monterey Woodie Station Wagon.

A special thanks to Rick & Lynn Lawson for adjusting the date of the Highway Clean Up to accommodate our Club’s invitation! Please RSVP to Andrew@rockymountaintr.org . Museum admission is $10 and Senior 65+ is $8. The Museum is located at 14959 West 69th Avenue, Arvada 80007.

66th Annual Rallye Glenwood Springs

The MG Car Club - Rocky Mountain Centre invites you to join us for the 66th Annual Rallye Glenwood Springs, the oldest continually-held time-speed-distance (TSD) rally in the United States, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 8, 9, & 10, 2018.

The Rallye Glenwood Springs weekend is a marvelous opportunity, not just for MG owners, but for sports car enthusiasts of every mark (British, American, German, Italian, Japanese) to come together for sunny days, cool nights, and unique events. The fun begins on Friday with a tour from the Denver suburb of Littleton, rallying through canyons and over mountain passes in the heart of the Rocky Mountains to the scenic resort town of Glenwood Springs. Saturday's main event is a time-speed-distance rally to challenge both novice and experienced rallyists.  Spend the day winding through the beautiful mountain valleys around Glenwood Springs.  The weekend culminates with a social gathering Saturday night and the Car Show, Funkana, and Awards Presentation on Sunday.  This year’s feature car is the TC,

Since it’s inception, the MGCC-RMC has sponsored this Rallye, which began when a hardy group of sports car owners discovered the joys of motoring in Colorado in MGs that still had drop-down tops and running boards.  The Rocky Mountains of central Colorado, with some of the most breathtaking scenery in America, have formed the backdrop for the Rallye Glenwood Springs through 65 previous years.  Vintage and classic cars from as far away as California and Illinois have shared the twisting mountain roads with their newer counterparts for octane-related festivities.  And enthusiasts have come from as far away as England to drive their sports cars through such fabled Colorado mining towns as Leadville and Aspen on their way to Glenwood Springs.

Registration is only $65 for all the driving events and the car show, or $25 if you choose to enter only the car show (before May 20; social event and regalia are extra).  Additional information and registration forms are available on the MG Car Club, Rocky Mountain Centre website at http://mgcc.org/.  This year you can register for the Rallye and order regalia on-line through the website. You can contact the Registrar Pam Frakes at 303-748-9773 or the Publicity Chairman Joe Gunderson at 303-791-4902 or email at glenwoodrallye@gmail.com.

RMTC's DRIVE YOUR TRIUMPH DAY

In the middle of winter? Why yes!. Some background...We are celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Sir John Black. Sir John was born on February 10, 1895. He served as a Captain in the Royal Tank Regiment in WW 1. He was one of the youngest. After the war he took a management position with Hillman Motors, later becoming managing director (CEO). Following that he took the same position with Standard Motor Company. He was active in WW 2 in manufacturing for the war effort and was knighted by King George VI for his efforts. He purchased Triumph in 1944 and along came the Standard Vanguard followed by the TR 2 and the rest of the TR line. He was the man most responsible for the postwar success of Triumph. He died in 1965.
We will celebrate, contingent on the weather, with a drive and a lunch. We will meet at the RTD Park-n-Ride at Wadsworth and Hampden with a planned departure for 11:00 am. Don’t be late! Here’s where it gets tricky. We have three options.
Option A, for good weather and dry roads, is to drive to Keys on the Green by Evergreen Lake for lunch and a group photo op.
Option B, for snowy/icy roads up Bear Creek Canyon, but dry/wet roads in town is to stay in town and lunch at the Breckenridge Brewery, also with a group photo op.
Option C, for snowy/icy roads here in town is to raise the garage door, take a photo, and send it to Dave Durstine, Triumph Herald Editor, at davidd@rockymountaintr.org; and/or to Rye Livingston of the Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club at driveyourtriumphday@gmail.com for possible inclusion in the Vintage Triumph Newsmagazine.
Let’s pray and plan for Option A. Please RSVP Rod at rodtr6@me.com with a head count for the purpose of our lunch reservation.
